OT...MIL rant!

This just hasn't been our week.
Last monday, my ultrasound showed no heartbeat. The next day, I miscarried. Later in the week, my husbands pug that he had 7 years started having seizures. Saturday morning, she was suffering so bad that i called all over trying to find a vet to euthanize her on a weekend (because that is more $$$$$)
My husband was already hysterical while I was on the phone with the vets. I physically had to carry that dog to the car, leave her, come back and get him, lead him to the car, then drive. He just was not capable of dealing with it. After what happened to us, I can't blame him.
Well, my drama queen MIL, who adored that dog (BTW, her response to my MC was "well that's why you shouldn't tell anyone before the 4th month" WTF??) has been calling here crying like a lunatic since yesterday, claiming that she wants to call the vet and have an autopsy done, telling my husband she is going to come pick him up today to spend the day with him, and bring him to all the local prestigious pet cemetaries. Also keeps nagging us to find out her exact date of birth from the breeder so she can have a custom rock engraved for our front yard.
Umm, hello? Does anyone think this is insane? We had her seperately cremated, and will be getting her ashes back soon. Who is this ***** to be telling us what to do with them? Why can't she cry to her own husband, and then be a shoulder to lean on for her son, who is suffering without this unneeded drama? I know she is upset about the dog, but she does not understand the line between parent and child. She keeps sending him links on dog graveyards, rememberance websites, ect.
Really....grow up. Be a parent. It shouldn't be the other way around. Thanks for letting me vent :(

I have been a pet owner my entire life. I LOVE my animals. LOVE them. But I have never had any cremated, buried, etc. Losing a pet is hard, for sure... but I am not the type of person who would ever go to a pet cemetary or anything.

However, in light of recent events, I can't BELIEVE that she reacted the way she did to your MC. I am at a loss for words on that one. I'm angry for you!!!

Wow! Some people never cease to amaze  me...hence my quote of the day on Facebook today. What in the hell is wrong with people? Do they not have emtions and feelings? UGH! Sorry you're having to deal with that plain out stupidity. I know they say some people are born without empathy, but seriously isn't that taking things a bit too far....to disregard the life of an unborn child so modestly yet yearn over the death of an animal??! I know our animals are like our children- as I am also sorry your husband is going thru that as well- but your mil seriously doesn't know where the difference lies. Hang in there girl and prayers for things to get much better for you soon!!  ~Hugs!

Goodness! I am so sorry...what a week!

For what it's worth a few years ago our beloved dog got really sick and had to be euthanized. (on a weekend at like 2am no less). We had him cremated and have his ashes in a box that is currently in my daughter's room. It's a pretty box and has really nice poems and such that came with it. We are planning on planting a tree and using his ashes in the soil. We had thought about having him buried, etc but planting a tree seemed more worthy. We aren't crazy animal people either, he had just been our pet since our youngest was a baby and he was defintely part of the family.
You may think this is a stupid idea, but if you don't, you could tell your mil that you've got it covered and she needs to chill. Whatever decision you make she needs to quit. I can't imagine all the drama on top of what you all have already been through.
Good luck!

Thanks. She is such a drama queen and always wants to have the final say in everything. We did pay extra for her remains to be given back to us, but my crazy MIL heard this and flipped out. Wanted to call the vet and demand she do an autopsy that she will pay for. Then her demands to let us have her get a custom engraved rock delivered to our yard (and we live in a condo, btw)
The problems I have are this 1. she totally undermined my miscarriage with her stupid comment she made.... 2.these hysterical ideas and sobfest phone calls are making my husband worse off. He has enough stress with the MC and having an autistic 12yr old stepdaughter. I have said this to her before. She only worries about herself and does what she thinks makes herself look good. IMO, she looks like a lunatic. Grow up and be a mother to your son. If this continues she and I are going to have to have an unpleasant conversation soon.

Just out of curiousity, why in the world does she want to have an autopsy done? The dog is gone, now... an autopsy report isn't going to change that. Is it really going to bring everyone peace of mind to know why the dog had seizures?
